Payne & Fears LLP announced that it elected two OCBA members Philip Lem and Alejandro Ruiz as two of the firm's newest partners.
Mr. Lem, of the firm’s Irvine office, represents employers in labor and employment matters. He regularly defends companies against wage and hour class actions, including misclassification and meal break claims. Mr. Lem's business litigation practice covers complex matters involving breach of contract, unfair competition, and copyright and trademark infringement. He often handles claims involving employee mobility, including the alleged theft of trade secrets and the enforceability of agreements not to compete and/or solicit employees and customers. Mr. Lem is active in his community including board positions with the Constitutional Rights Foundation – Orange County Chapter and the Notre Dame Club of Orange County.
Mr. Ruiz, also of the Irvine office, handles both employment and business litigation matters. His practice focuses on all aspects of employment litigation, including wrongful termination, discrimination, leave, and wage and hour class actions. In addition, Mr. Ruiz handles various types of business litigation cases involving executive separations, non-compete agreements, trademark infringement, misappropriation of trade secrets, and contract disputes. Throughout his career, Mr. Ruiz has repeatedly secured favorable outcomes for his clients, ranging from favorable settlements to complete and unqualified victories by summary judgment, jury verdict, and affirmance on appeal.
