Court Announces Orange County Superior Court Judicial Mentor Upcoming March 14, 2023, Workshop and Accepting Applications For 2023 Mentorship Year

Santa Ana, CA — UPCOMING WORKSHOP: In collaboration with the Orange County Association of Affinity Judicial Officers and Orange County Unity Bar, the Judicial Mentor Committee is hosting a March Workshop, for ALL interested in applying for appointment to the bench, or underway in the application process, with special appearance by Judicial Appointments Secretary Luis Cespedes. A diverse panel of judicial officers will discuss their pathways to the bench, the hazards of self-disqualification and tips on do’s and don’ts.

Where: Hybrid Event: Central Justice Center, 700 Civic Center Drive, West, Santa Ana, CA, Department C1, Central Justice Center and via ZOOM.

The Orange County Superior Court is now accepting applications for the 2023 class of mentees in the Judicial Mentor Program. The Judicial Mentor Program is a collaboration between the executive and judicial branches to advance the shared goal of an inclusive judiciary that reflects California’s diversity. The Judicial Mentorship Program aims to work with local bar associations, nonprofit legal organizations, and others in the legal community to identify and encourage a diverse pool of candidates to apply for appointment to the bench.

The Judicial Mentor Program, co-chaired by Judge John C. Gastelum and Judge H. Shaina Colover, consists of a large group of Orange County Judges dedicated to promoting the goals of inclusion and diversity on the Bench and prepared to provide mentorship and guidance to local attorneys accepted into the Program.

Program Qualifications include:

  • Admitted to practice law in CA for at least 10 years
  • In good standing with CA State Bar
  • Have not yet applied for judicial appointment
