Pro Bono Activities

The Orange County Bar Association develops opportunities for attorneys in Orange County to volunteer their legal expertise to increase access to justice. In addition to soliciting volunteers for the Public Law Center, current attorney volunteer opportunities include:

Guardianship Project
Attorney volunteers are trained to participate in legal clinics held at the Central Justice Center, Room A100, every Monday afternoon from 12:30 to 4:30 (excluding court holidays). This legal clinic assists relatives through the legal process to gain guardianship of a minor. The project also involves accepting cases from the Public Law Center.

Bankruptcy Project
Provides training for attorneys who want to volunteer at legal clinics held at the Orange County Bankruptcy Court. These clinics help low-income pro se debtors understand their rights regarding reaffirmation agreements and Chapter 7 filings.

Veterans Legal Institute
With the return of so many veterans from combat, there has been a surge in discharge upgrade requests. Veterans who separate from the military with a less than honorable characterization can petition the appropriate agency for an upgrade so they can access their benefits, restore their self confidence and become more employable. VLI assists veterans who suffer from Military Sexual Trauma and mental health illnesses like Post Traumatic Stress or Traumatic Brain Injury, restore their characterization of discharge through pro bono attorneys like you. Should your firm be interested in a free MCLE training, we would be happy to go to you! Email abalta@vetslegal.com for more details.
