Veterans Legal Institute Launches LA Legal Clinics with USC Gould School of Law

The OCBA is pleased to share that Veterans Legal Institute (VLI) has announced its partnership with the University of Southern California Gould School of Law to conduct the USC / VLI Veterans Legal Clinic after its first collaboration. The clinic will begin as a monthly program for USC law school students, who can volunteer to assist low-income veterans with civil matters, such as family law issues or discharge upgrades.

"Legal clinics allow law students the opportunity to perform hands-on legal work for those who cannot afford private attorneys. It is tremendous to see future attorneys serving the men and women who have served the nation in uniform, keeping faith with those who have sacrificed so much to protect us and maintain our freedom,” said Veterans Legal Institute CEO and OCBA member Major Dwight Stirling, who graduated from Gould School of Law in 2000.

This partnership expands VLI's reach from its Santa Ana headquarters to Los Angeles where free legal assistance is a vital part of helping veterans get back on their feet. Los Angeles currently has a population of more than 325,000 veterans and more than 1,200 of whom are homeless.
