The passing of Judge Alicemarie Stotler

Statement from OCBA President Thomas H. Bienert Jr.

The OCBA suffered a tremendous loss today with the sad news of the passing of Judge Alicemarie Stotler.  She was a legal legend in our community.  No one served Orange County more than did Judge Stotler: Orange County private practitioner, Deputy District Attorney, Municipal Court Judge, Superior Court Judge, and United States District Judge.  She mentored dozens of law clerks and lawyers with her inimitable wit, wisdom and grace, and she set the standard for all judges and attorneys: hard work, intellectual ability, professionalism, integrity, common sense.  Throughout all, she remained a devoted leader of the OCBA.  She joined the OCBA in 1968, selected as the first female OCBA officer in 1983, served as OCBA Secretary in 1984, received the OCBA’s highest honor, the Franklin G. West Award in 1985, and was a founding co-chair of the OCBA Masters Division in 2011.   Judge Stotler left her mark on the OCBA for over 45 years.  She is irreplaceable.  She will be sorely missed.
