Orange County Superior Court Announces Judicial Mentor Program Informational Meeting

Santa Ana, CA — In collaboration with the Judicial Mentor Committee, Presiding Judge Erick L. Larsh and Assistant Presiding Judge Maria D. Hernandez are hosting a virtual informational meeting of the Orange County Superior Court’s Judicial Mentor Program at 12:00 PM, on February 16, 2022, via ZOOM.

The program will feature remarks by Judicial Appointments Secretary Luis Céspedes. The Judicial Mentor Program is chaired by Judge Elizabeth G. Macias and consists of two sub-committees: (1) the Mentor Committee, co-chaired by Judge John C. Gastelum, (2) the Outreach Committee co-chaired by Judge H. Shaina Colover.

Gov. Gavin Newsom in July 2021 announced the California Judicial Mentor Program as a collaboration between the executive and judicial branches to advance the shared goal of an inclusive judiciary that reflects California’s diversity. The Judicial Mentor Program aims to provide guidance to local attorneys through mentorship by Orange County Judges, thus increasing the local applicant pool for new judges.

“Our Court is committed to providing resources to our legal community. This mentorship program is an investment in providing access to justice for our community, through the appointment of highly qualified judges,” said Presiding Judge Erick L. Larsh.

The program will work with local bar associations, nonprofit legal organizations, government lawyers, law firms, and solo practitioners to identify and encourage candidates to apply for appointment.
