Supervising Judge Hurwitz’s April 22, 2020 Announcement

Updating you regarding the processing of Family Law submissions:

We have now continued/trailed 9,132 hearings in 6,904 cases. As a result, we can free up staff to begin the processing protocols for the 8,160 submissions awaiting filing.

Starting tomorrow, 4/22, we will begin triaging the currently pending 8,160 submissions to determine any irregularities which would require rejection and resubmission. As a result, you can anticipate receiving any rejections with the notations for corrections. Please correct and resubmit right away. Do not delay the resubmission.

We will begin processing and filing the following:

1. QDRO’s
2. Stipulated Judgments
3. 2336 Judgments

We will process, but not “file”, Default Judgments. The reason we cannot “file” the default Judgments is that the filing would trigger the time limits for Motions to Set Aside and since we cannot yet “file” those Motions, this would be unfair to the Respondent.

As we progress and obtain more resources, we will expand what we can process. We are working on Plans for Remote Hearings and will advise you when we have the resources to enable

the Protocols which we want to put in place.
