Supporting our Veterans Through Treatment Courts

Many Veterans in the criminal justice system are there due to behaviors related to mental health issues stemming from their military service. Orange County has developed court programs intended to provide these Veterans with treatment and supervision to address those root causes of their behavior as an alternative to incarceration.

This seminar will explain why these programs exist (including the statutory foundations), how Veterans are referred to and accepted into the programs, how the programs work, and why they are successful at changing lives and making our communities safer.

A Veterans Treatment Court Graduation will follow the presentation. This will include a speech by the graduate, discussion between the graduate and team members, comments from audience members, presentation of mementos and gifts to the graduate, and the making of motions for legal relief as a result of the graduation. Attendance at the graduation is optional.

This program is approved for 1.5 CLE Credit. Attendees must have participated in the program in its entirety to receive MCLE credit.
