No Left-Handed Lawyers Allowed: Legal AIs and Their Biases
This panel will explore the complex issue of implicit and explicit bias in the legal field, particularly in relation to the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and legal technologies by attorneys. The discussion will focus on key stages in the development and use of legal tech-namely programmer bias, data bias, and application bias-where bias can be introduced, potentially undermining fairness and effectiveness.
The panel will also examine the core components of AI, including systems for text, image, and video generation, and the inherent technological biases they carry that may impact legal outcomes. By identifying where and how these biases arise, the discussion aims to raise awareness and present practical strategies for mitigating hidden technological biases that can translate into legal bias.
Ultimately, the panel seeks to promote a more inclusive, just, and equitable legal system by encouraging responsible use and development of AI technologies.
This program is approved for 1.0 Implicit Bias CLE Credit. Attendees must have participated in the program in its entirety to receive MCLE credit.
Cancellations must be received in writing by May 30, 2025 (no refunds after this date).
