Judge Ami Sheth Sagel

Pathway to the Bench
Judge Sagel will share what she learned from going through the judicial appointment journey, including the application and interview process, prior helpful work experience, service and community involvement, and any other helpful suggestions for those curious or interested in a position on the bench. Judge Sagel will also talk about her experience during her first year as a judicial officer and how that has impacted her personal life.
Appointed to the Orange County Superior Court, Ami Sheth Sagel has general family law calendar since she started in December 2023. Prior to appointment, she was a solo practitioner, working primarily on adoptions, both contested and uncontested cases, guardianships and dependency matters since 2015. She also helped start a law firm in 2022 to advocate for survivors of sexual abuse. From 2009 to 2015, she worked for the United States Attorney’s Office (first in Los Angeles, then Riverside). Prior to her work as a prosecutor, she worked at the law firm of Kirkland & Ellis, LLP in New York in the area of commercial litigation. Judge Sagel has previously been involved in various committees of the Orange County Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association (Inland Empire Chapter), and the Asian Pacific American Lawyers of the Inland Empire. She is a graduate of the University of Chicago Law School and Claremont McKenna College.
