Understanding the Newly Amended Racial Justice Act (Penal Code § 745)

The Racial Justice Act (RJA) is codified in Penal Code sections 745(a)-(j). The first of the amendments went into effect on January 1, 2023. Section 745(a) states: “The state shall not seek or obtain a criminal conviction or seek, obtain, or impose a sentence on the basis of race, ethnicity, or national origin.” Our speakers will dive into how bias affects people of color in the criminal justice system and how recent changes in California law can help combat explicit and implicit bias.

This program is approved for 1.00 CLE Credit, including 0.5 Elimination of Bias and 0.5 Implicit Bias Credits. Attendees must have participated in the program in its entirety to receive MCLE credit.

Cancellations must be received in writing via fax or email three (3) business days prior to meeting date to receive a refund.
