Getting the Numbers Right: Calculating Wages, Overtime, Reporting Pay, Premiums, Penalties, and PAGA
Many lawyers are intimidated by numbers. We're orators, not mathematicians! However, “getting the numbers right” is a critical part of complying with wage and hour laws. This program will discuss how to calculate regular rate of pay, overtime, reporting pay, meal/rest premiums, penalties, and PAGA. We'll discuss the relevance of Ferra v. Loews and Naranjo v. Spectrum, two cases pending before the California Supreme Court. From both a plaintiff and defense perspective, we'll spell out what the law clearly requires…and where ambiguity flourishes. They say that “figures don't lie, but liars do figure.” Come join us, and we'll help you figure out how to be the truth-telling advocate that your client needs! (Pocket protector optional.)
