Requesting SIJS Findings in Family Court: An Overview of the Parentage Process
Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) is a unique immigration benefit that requires a predicate order issued in a state court, prior to submitting an application with U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services. This presents a challenge to immigration practitioners who are not experienced in filing parentage petitions in family court. This presentation offers an overview of the parentage process and obtaining SIJS findings in the Orange County Superior Court, as well as practical advice for preparing SIJS petitions.
