President's Message

Hi TMBA Family,

As we celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we stand with AAPI communities to denounce racism and violence against them, even when such hatred and violence comes from within the AAPI community. On Sunday, church members of the Irvine Taiwanese Presbyterian Church were attacked at Geneva Presbyterian Church in Laguna Woods. The gunman killed one member and wounded five others. This hate crime came just one day after an 18-year old white man misguided by the white supremacist ideology known as replacement theory shot 13 people, fatally wounding 10 of them at a supermarket in a predominantly Black neighborhood in Buffalo, New York. Both of these murderers traveled outside of their own communities to turn their evil thoughts and spirits into acts of brutality, leading to a loss of lives and peace to communities near and far.

During a month when we should be joyously celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and Jewish American Heritage Month, we are reminded of the hatred and violence that continues to permeate our local OC community and our country. At a time when it is understandable to be at a loss for words and comforting to retreat, TMBA encourages its members and community to stay strong and continue to do the work to make the OC and our nation safer and more accepting.

As we close out May, which is Mental Health Awareness Month, we are reminded that it is important to reflect on our mental health and emotional well-being, especially during the trying times of this past weekend. Click the link below for activities that might help improve overall psychological well-being.

TMBA endorses Chief Administrative Law Judge Juliet Macaulay for Superior Court Judge.

Chief Judge Macaulay is a seasoned Administrative Law Judge with extensive hearing and management experience. As an Administrative Law Judge, Judge Macaulay has demonstrated good judicial temperament and strong work ethic.  She is an active listener, and always acts with integrity and fairness.

Her experience as Chief Administrative Law Judge and her numerous successes in that position speak for themselves.  It is our belief that her professional and personal experiences have equipped her with the tools and skills every judge should possess.  Chief Judge Macaulay actively engages stakeholders, and she collaborates well with others to identify and resolve problems. She consistently receives positive reviews and feedback from superiors, peers, and direct reports.

Chief Judge Macaulay’s appointment adds more diversity to the bench and we believe that the judiciary should be representative of the residents of Orange County and those who appear in its courts.
