OCBA Law Day Celebration and Awards Recognition
The Orange County Bar Association kicked off Law Day U.S.A. with a luncheon on Thursday, May 1, 2008. Judicial officers, attorneys and representatives from local government gathered to celebrate Law Day and pay tribute to a friend, colleague and honoree of this years Harmon G. Scoville Award. Boo J. Giuffre was posthumously presented with the Scoville award and honored by those who knew her well. Her mother, Vern Giuffre accepted the award on her behalf. Ms. Giuffre was recognized for her significant contributions to her profession, the OCBA and the community.
The recipients of the Liberty Bell Award, The League of Women Voters OC Chapters, were honored for their hard work and continued efforts at strengthening the American system of freedom under law.

Congratulations to 1st Place Low Gross Winners Tom Stabile, Joseph Shuff III, Ken Demmerle (not pictured) and Glenn Mehner (not pictured). The 2nd Place Low Gross was earned by Mark Ashworth, Rich Cohn, Wylie Aitken and Christopher Mears.
First Place Low Net winners were Tom Mauro, Jonas Cikotas, Jim Skorheim and Jonathan Skorheim. 2nd Place Low Net winners were Peter Flanagan, Robert Day and Wayne Jones.

Domestic Violence Legal Clinic Training

The Domestic Violence Legal Clinics offer one-on-one legal advice and counsel to victims of domestic violence at three womens shelters located in Orange County. The clinics currently are able to assist about 30 women a month, but there are many more abused women in need.
This program will introduce interested attorneys to the many types of problems that affect victims of domestic violence and will provide resources to deal with these problems. The focus will be not only on legal issues, but also on the social and economic issues (homelessness, employment, health) that may be affecting the lives of victims who are seeking help from these shelters. Two hours of MCLE credit will be offered in exchange for your attendance and volunteer commitment. For more information or to register, download a registration form. |

State Bar Accepting Nominations for the 2008 Aranda Award
Nominations for the 2008 Benjamin Aranda III Access To Justice Award are now being accepted. The Aranda Award honors a judge who has demonstrated a long-term commitment to improving access to our courts, and who has significantly improved access for low- and moderate-income Californians.
