VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

Juror Volunteers Needed (Non-Attorney)
Please let your non-attorney family, friends and students (16 and older) know about this opportunity to volunteer as a "juror" for the mock trial sessions during the OCBA College of Trial Advocacy program from April 22, 2009 through May 16, 2009. Students can earn their community service hours. The sessions are part of a five-week seminar series for practicing attorneys who are learning about trial techniques. All of the sessions are presided over by sitting Orange County judges and experienced attorneys. This experience provides valuable insight into the jury selection process and the utilization of a jury in a trial. Click here to volunteer. For more information on COTA click here.

Arbitrators Needed
Join many of your prestigious colleagues and volunteer for the OCBA Mandatory Fee Arbitration (MFA) Committee. Volunteer committee members conduct mandatory fee arbitrations as set forth by Business & Professions Code 6200 et seq. to resolve fee disputes between clients and their attorneys. Volunteers must have been practicing law for at least 4 years and be in good standing with OCBA and State Bar of California.

Or, if you have friends or family that are not lawyers and are looking for an interesting volunteer opportunity, the OCBA MFA Committee is also looking for lay arbitrators to participate on three panel arbitrations. Volunteers serving in this capacity cannot be paralegals, law students or affiliated with the practice of law in any way.

A free CLE arbitrator training is planned for Thursday, April 23, 2009 and attendance is required prior to case assignment. Contact Rebecca Mannara, Client Services Administrator at (949) 440-6700 extension 128 or Rebecca@ocba.net for an application package or more information.
