Created to meet the needs of Orange County Bar Association members in their first four years of practice, the Orange County Bar Association Young Lawyers Division (YLD) brings new attorneys together through educational, community outreach, social and sporting activities. These activities help new lawyers adapt to their demanding profession, encourage early involvement in the legal community and build camaraderie with fellow lawyers.

YLD Membership Has Its Benefits
YLD Dues are Just $10 per Year!

Membership in YLD will allow you to sign up for educational meetings, social functions, community service projects and other activities geared toward new attorneys. For only $10 annual dues, YLD members can participate in exclusive YLD events and activities. Additionally, many YLD events and activities are discount priced for YLD members. YLD membership also includes exclusive mailers and electronic communications providing advance notice of upcoming events of interest to YLD members.

What Can YLD Do For You?

To help the professional development and the interchange of information between new lawyers and experienced lawyers, YLD offers practical skills programs and seminars conducted by experienced practitioners, trial lawyers, corporate counsel, judges and other young lawyers. These programs also provide substantive continuing legal education (CLE). Past YLD seminar topics include: So You’re a Rainmaker… Now What?: Business Development for the Ethical and Practical Associate; The Difference Between Winning & Losing; Litigation 101; Taking & Defending Effective Depositions; Financial Planning for the New Lawyer; Truth or Dare: Ethical Dilemmas, and many more seminars tailored for the new practitioner.

To help enhance your networking skills and promote fellowship among new members of the legal profession, YLD provides sporting and social opportunities such as a co-ed softball league, The YLD Bad News Bearristers, team activities such as the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk, quarterly mixers such as St. Patrick’s Day Spring Social, Oktoberfest Fall social, and the ever-popular annual holiday party.

To help new lawyers help others and provide a respite from a demanding profession, YLD offers community service and pro bono activities such as pro bono clinic training with the Public Law Center, beach clean up, annual visits to Orangewood Children’s Home and tree planting with ShadeTree Partnership, to name a few.

All of these YLD activities — social, sports, education and community outreach — provide new lawyers with an array of benefits and the keys to a successful legal career. So don’t miss out on YLD membership privileges — sign up for YLD today!

OCBA Introduces "Mentor on Demand"

The Mentor on Demand (MOD) program is the first of its kind in California and was developed exclusively for the OCBA Young Lawyers Division members. The MOD program gives YLD members free online access to a virtual mentor 24/7. The Mentor on Demand Committee's goal was to supplement traditional face to face mentoring with virtual mentoring that is accessible wherever and whenever the young lawyer can find the time. The Committee's efforts resulted in the creation and launch of "Mentor on Demand," a series of virtual on-demand mentoring videos consisting of 10 minutes or less. To check out these innovative video presentations, visit www.mentorondemand.org.
