Bridging the Gap Committee

The mission of the Bridging the Gap Committee (“BTG”) is to plan and coordinate a program that will provide a forum for new admittees to the Bar to receive an overview and basic understanding of the various legal specialty practices in a courtroom setting. Through these presentations, attendees are provided with a broad array of talent and expertise from which to try to determine their career goals and objectives.

BTG is free of charge to new admittees and provides CLE credit. The full-day program is offered in July and February of each year and includes a number of 1-hour breakout sessions on subjects from basic courtroom decorum to various specialty practice areas. These areas include law and motion practice, administrative law, criminal law, elder law-trusts & probate, family law, immigration law, labor & employment, landlord & tenant, personal injury and small firm/solo practice.

The BTG Committee has 2 to 3 meetings during the 4 to 5 months leading up to the scheduled program date. Tasks, such a checking availability of speakers in a particular practice area, compiling the syllabus and introducing the speakers at the program will be assigned during these planning meetings. Committee members might also be asked questions by the new admittees during the scheduled breaks at the program.

It is the Committee’s overall goal to continue to provide assistance to new attorneys in making the transition from law school to law practice. Each year the types of sessions provided to the attendees are re-assessed and the syllabus for the program is reviewed and updated.
