The OCBA Speakers Bureau is a community service of the Orange County Bar Association. The goal of the Speakers Bureau is to better educate the public about the legal system while giving OCBA members the opportunity to appear before many civic groups and develop their speaking skills.
The OCBA provides volunteers to speak to community groups, free of charge, on various law-related topics. The mission of the Orange County Bar Association is to enhance the system of justice, to support the lawyers who serve it and to assist the community served by it. The Speakers Bureau is an integral part of that mission.
Although the Speakers Bureau is sometimes referred to as a committee of the bar, it is in fact a panel of volunteers that are called upon as requests are received from community groups. Members of the Speakers Bureau do not have meetings. Instead, individuals are contacted by the OCBA staff when a request for a speaker is received that matches their area of expertise.
The Bureau has provided speakers to hundreds of civic groups, social organizations, schools, lawenforcement groups, veterans, retired persons, women's groups and more. The OCBA's goal is to maintain a diverse roster of attorneys available to speak throughout Orange County on the many aspects of law, from the basics to the latest issues.
The Speakers Bureau is organized by topics and by areas of the county. Applicants will be asked to identify the topics on which they are qualified to speak and in which areas of the county they are willing to appear.
The OCBA Speakers Bureau covers many topics including:
- BUSINESS ISSUES
- FAMILY LAW ISSUES
- CRIMINAL LAW ISSUES
- CIVIL PRACTICE/PROCEDURES
- PROPERTY ISSUES
- MISCELLANEOUS SPECIALTY AREAS
Volunteering for the Speakers Bureau is an excellent way to get involved, while educating the public and developing speaking skills that are vital in many law practices.
