October 2012 - The OCBA’s 2013 Secretarial Candidates

In our annual popular election, two outstanding and contributing members of our legal community are nominated for Secretary of the OCBA to serve the term beginning January 1, 2013. Yearly, the Secretary elevates to Treasurer, President-Elect, President, and Immediate Past-President. Whomever you elect will influence the development and direction of the OCBA for years to come. If you are an active attorney member of the OCBA, please vote. The online election will be open from 9:00 a.m. on Monday, October 1 until 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 23 at www.ocbar.org/vote. In alphabetical order, allow me to introduce your two candidates for Secretary: Todd Friedland and Teresa McQueen.

Todd Friedland
Todd Friedland’s experience, community contributions, and vision for the OCBA’s future make him an outstanding candidate for Secretary of the OCBA.
Todd believes the OCBA can elevate the profile of Orange County legal practice in a manner that benefits all OCBA members. He is committed to ensuring that the business community, general public, California’s legislators, and legal practitioners throughout the state understand that the Bench and Bar in Orange County are second to none. Todd also plans to promote programs that foster professionalism and ethical practice in the legal community. These include mentoring and outreach opportunities. According to Todd, “It is imperative that we preserve and expand Orange County’s reputation as a place where great legal work is performed in a professional manner.” You can learn more about Todd’s vision for, and commitment to, the OCBA at www.toddfriedland.com.
As an elected member of the OCBA Board of Directors, Todd served on the Facilities Task Force which oversaw the OCBA’s successful purchase of its new headquarters. This purchase will save money for the OCBA and offer amenities to its members. Presently, Todd serves on the Mentoring Committee, the Orange County Lawyer Editorial Committee, and the Charitable Fund Annual Benefit Committee.
Todd’s commitment to the community reaches beyond the OCBA. A Past-President of the Constitutional Rights Foundation of Orange County, Todd promotes CRF-OC’s mission to provide civics education through Mock Trial, Peer Court, and Law Day. “These programs teach skills that help students succeed in their future educational and professional endeavors,” says Todd. Todd has served in leadership for Adventure Guides (Dads & Daughters) and on the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation’s golf tournament committee (despite being a terrible golfer).
Todd co-founded Stephens Friedland LLP, a business litigation boutique, in 2006. Previously, he practiced at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman and clerked for the Honorable Paul Boland.
Todd is fortunate to be married to D’Ann, who understands and supports his commitment to the OCBA, CRF-OC, and our county’s legal community, and to have three great kids (Ashlyn, Aubrey, and Aidan) who think this election is “way cool,” and that you should vote for their dad.

Teresa McQueen
Teresa McQueen should be your choice for OCBA Secretary. As an active and serving member of the Orange County Bar Association, Teresa has demonstrated her genuine passion to serve the legal community from the day she left Chapman University School of Law and joined the Orange County Bar Association ten years ago.
Teresa has served as a Director at Large on the OCBA’s Board of Directors for the past six years. Teresa’s leadership abilities have time and again been endorsed by her colleagues over the years, as evidenced by her appointment or election to serve in key leadership positions as chair or co-chair of many important OCBA divisions, committees, and sections, including the Young Lawyers Division (2007), Resolutions Committee (2011), the Mentor on Demand program (2008–2011), Bridging the Gap Committee (2009–2012), Law Day Committee (2006–2007), and the Solo/Small Firm Section (2006). Teresa also just completed her term as Chair of the State Bar’s Solo Practitioner/Small Firm Section. Teresa’s commitment to serve is further demonstrated by her ongoing service to the OCBA in a wide range of volunteer positions, giving her an impressive breadth of experience in, and knowledge of, the OCBA. Visit www.teresamcqueen.com to learn more.
Teresa views the OCBA as a unique and important resource to serve its diverse membership. Not only does the OCBA provide high-quality, relevant, educational opportunities often unmatched by private enterprise, it also provides a tremendous platform for its members to serve the Orange County non-lawyer community. As a member of the OCBA Executive Committee, Teresa will work to further develop and enhance educational opportunities for members, promote meaningful community service and pro bono opportunities, and remain, as always, responsive to membership priorities.
Teresa exhibits her commitment to diversity and workplace fairness by protecting employee rights at Pedersen Heck McQueen, APLC, a small firm in Irvine. She has been selected as a “Rising Star” twice by Law & Politics and the publishers of Los Angeles Magazine. She also writes and lectures on various topics, including civility and professionalism, litigation practices, and employment law.
Vote for Teresa McQueen for OCBA Secretary: Leadership, Experience, Commitment.
