October 2013 - The OCBAʼs 2014 Secretarial Candidates: Tirzah A. Lowe & Michael L. Baroni

In the OCBA’s annual popular election, two outstanding and contributing members of the Orange County legal community are nominated for Secretary of the OCBA to serve the term beginning January 1, 2014. Yearly, the Secretary elevates to Treasurer, President Elect, President, and Immediate Past President. Whomever you elect will influence the development and direction of the OCBA for years to come. If you are an active, attorney member of the OCBA, please vote. The online election will be open from Tuesday, October 1 until 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 22 at www.ocbar.org/vote.

In alphabetical order, allow me to introduce your two candidates for OCBA Secretary: Michael L. Baroni and Tirzah A. Lowe.

Michael L. Baroni
Michael L. Baroni founded the Entertainment, Sports, & Marketing Law section—starring O.C. Housewives, UFC fighters, Bill Handel (KFI Radio), a hall-of-fame athlete, and a “Lord of the Rings” litigator. This section attracted a diverse membership from across the OCBA community, including lawyers in family law, trusts & estates, employment, insurance, real estate, and more. Like the Entertainment section, Michael believes that the OCBA should be cohesive, cutting-edge, exciting, and ever-evolving.

Michael is General Counsel to Palace Entertainment, which boasts 15,000 employees and 13,000,000 annual visitors to its forty amusement parks. Michael’s OCBA adventures include two terms on the Board, chair of Product Liability, and committees such as Administration of Justice, Editorial, Audit, and Legislative Resolutions (where he drafted an amusement park safety law).

Michael is passionate about Community Outreach. He connected Big Brothers/Sisters with the OCBA and produces “Big for a Day” events at Boomers!, as well as participating in Beach Clean-Up, Pet Adoption, and Food Harvest.

As a Constitutional Rights Foundation board member, Michael chaired Career Forum, where 1,000 O.C. high school students enjoyed inspirational career workshops. He also works on Constitution Day and Law Day.

Michael received the Best Legal Dept. in the USA award (previously won by giants like Google and Microsoft), the Professional Excellence Award, the Most Innovative Legal Department, was named a Top In-House Counsel in California and Top Attorney in O.C., and is the subject of a book chapter in Legal Visionaries. He has published 100+ articles on a remarkably broad range of topics, and has spoken at several dozen events across the country and internationally, from Tahiti to Sicily.

Striving to stay in touch with OCBA constituents, Michael has attended meetings at all twenty-five sections. He seeks to drive membership and attendance, and to create a special support group for attorneys with disabilities and health challenges. He believes in diversity of viewpoints, respect for all, and bringing people together. As your Secretary, he would discharge his duties with the deepest, most humble respect, knowing that he serves all of you—the members!
