The Lord of the Rings & the Rescued Hobbit: Profit Participation Rights When Books Are Made Into Movies
During its monthly meeting on Monday, July 23, 2012, members of the OCBA Entertainment, Sports, & Marketing Law Section heard from one of the world’s premiere entertainment litigators, who sued New Line Cinema on behalf of the J.R.R. Tolkien estate, to rescue The Hobbit and its treasure-trove of profits, from unauthorized use and exploitation. Greenberg Glusker Partner Bonnie Eskenazi explained Hollywood profit-participation rights when books are turned into movies.
