OCBA Member, Snell & Wilmer Partner Designated Certified Specialist in Admiralty and Maritime Law

OCBA member and Snell & Wilmer Partner Randolph Moore has been designated a Certified Specialist in Admiralty and Maritime Law by the State Bar of California’s Board of Legal Specialization. Of the 37 individuals who are certified in this legal specialty area, he is one of only three located in Orange County. The State Bar of California’s Legal Specialization program was the first of its kind, created for the purposes of increasing public protection and encouraging attorney competence. Admiralty and maritime law, one of eleven legal specialty areas available for certification by the program, is a distinct body of law dealing with the substantive and procedural aspects of marine commerce, vessels, navigation, shipping and transportation of goods by sea. It includes the statutes and regulations that govern the operation of vessels, piers, marinas and the impact of pollution upon navigable waters and, under certain circumstances, activities on the high seas. To earn the certification, the bar imposes a rigorous application process including passage of a written examination of admiralty and maritime law and completion of 45 hours of legal education or a LL.M. degree in maritime law. California attorneys who are certified as specialists have demonstrated a high level of experience in the specialty field, fulfilled ongoing education requirements and been favorably evaluated by other attorneys and judges familiar with their work.
