Orange County Bar Association Evaluates Candidates Running for Judicial Office in June 5 Election

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.—As a public service to assist the voters in Orange County, the Orange County Bar Association (OCBA) has conducted a review of both candidates running for Superior Court Judge, Office No. 1, in the June 5 election. The OCBA considered each candidate to be given one of four ratings: "Exceptionally Well Qualified," "Well Qualified," or "Qualified," or "Not Qualified."

OCBA RATINGS OF JUDICIAL CANDIDATES

Superior Court Office No. 1
Judge Deborah J. Chuang (incumbent) WELL QUALIFIED
Eugene Jizhak NOT QUALIFIED

The review of candidates was conducted by the Judiciary Committee of the OCBA, which is comprised of a diverse group of nearly 30 attorneys, all in practice for at least 10 years. Candidate Eugene Jizhak declined to provide any information directly to the bar. Candidate Deborah J. Chuang, the incumbent, did fully cooperate with the process and completed a detailed questionnaire and participated in a personal interview.

Notwithstanding the lack of participation from Candidate Jizhak, the process for both candidates included independent review in order to reach the final rating.

The mission of the Orange County Bar Association is to enhance the system of justice, to support the lawyers who serve it and to assist the community served by it. The OCBA does not endorse any candidate for election, and provides this information as a public service.
