NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., Oct. 9, 2012—The Orange County Bar Association (OCBA) will present the Harmon G. Scoville Award to Judge Wendy S. Lindley during its annual Volunteer Recognition Reception, to be held Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, at the Promenade & Gardens by Turnip Rose in Costa Mesa.
The Scoville Award honors a member of the Orange County legal community whose career exemplifies the highest standards of the legal profession and who has significantly contributed to the OCBA and championed our constitutional system of justice. The award was established in 1990 in honor of retired California State Court of Appeal Justice Harmon G. Scoville.
This year’s recipient, Judge Wendy S. Lindley has consistently been a driving force behind Orange County’s Collaborative Courts, specialized “problem-solving” court tracks that address underlying issues that may be present in the lives of persons who come before the court on criminal, juvenile, or dependency matters.
“Judge Wendy Lindley worked diligently to establish the first Drug Court in Orange County in 1994, and she has continued to lead the way in the expansion of the treatment court model and the implementation of problem-solving courts in California,” said Orange County Superior Court Chief Executive Officer Alan Carlson. “Throughout her career, she has worked to bring meaningful access to justice to veterans, the homeless, the addicted, and the mentally ill; in this work she exemplifies judicial excellence and the highest principles of the judicial branch.”
Among her many accolades, Judge Lindley received the Chief Probation Officers of California’s 2011 and 2006 Judicial Officer of the Year Awards, the California Public Defenders Association’s 2010 Rose Elizabeth Bird Award for Judicial Courage and Integrity, the California Women Lawyers’ 2006 Joan Dempsey Klein Distinguished Jurist Award, the Orange County Women Lawyers Association’s 2005 Judge of the Year Award, and the Hispanic Bar Association of Orange County’s 1996 Judges’ Award.
